Concert Choir- Ballenas Secondary, Parksville, B.C.
Vocal Jazz- Kwalikum Secondary, Qualicum Beach, B.C.
The Oceanside Choir Festival WILL NOT be held in the 2011-2012 school year, but look for this event next year, in 2011-13
To all Choral directors;
Our festival provides students and their teachers a supportive educational performance environment, a brilliant professional adjudication, for those that are interested- an opportunity to receive an invitation to MusicFest Canada (in Richmond, B.C. in 2011), and most importantly- a longer adjudication time. The Oceanside Choral Festival is recognized by MusicFest Canada as a regional festival for the mid-Vancouver Island region.
We have scheduled a full hour for each choir’s performance and adjudication. Teachers and their students should program a minimum of three contrasting selections to be performed and adjudicated in a 60-minute time slot. The average performance time is 15 minutes- that leaves a 45-minute adjudication!
Ballenas Secondary in Parksville has a wonderful theatre and is the site for concert choirs. Kwalikum Secondary in Qualicum Beach will host vocal jazz ensembles in their excellent facilities.
Please note there are separate registration forms for concert choir and vocal jazz ensembles. The registration fee is $200.00 for a single registration and $150.00 each if you are bringing two or more groups.
Parksville/Qualicum Beach is centrally located in mid-Vancouver Island. We are a one-hour bus ride south of the Comox Airport, two hours from Victoria, and three hours from the Pacific Rim National Park. From here, all Vancouver Island locations are a day trip away.
Both Ballenas and Kwalikum secondary schools have grand pianos to accompany your choir(s). Kwalikum will provide a complete rhythm section for vocal jazz choirs. We can play CD accompaniments if you’d prefer.
It is no fun singing to an empty hall! We invite and encourage choirs with their teachers to join the audience following their clinic. There is tremendous educational value in listening to other choirs.
Please provide one original copy of each selection for your adjudicator.
