School District 69 has a long-standing practise of collaborating with colleagues and partners when planning and working on projects and initiatives. There are a number of standing district committees, some of which are staff based, and some of which have district partner involvement.
A District Committee involving partner groups will include representatives from the Mount Arrowsmith Teachers Association (MATA), Support Staff (CUPE), Qualicum District Principals and Vice-Principals Association (QDPVPA), and District 69 Parent Advisory Council (DPAC) as well as a senior district staff member. There is a standing District Policy Committee, a District Technology Advisory Comittee and a District Communications Committee.
From time to time, an ad hoc District Committee will be formed by the Board to examine an issue or review a practise. Examples include District Committees formed to examine field trip practises, smoking on school grounds, naming new schools, and the Boards policy regarding complaints/resolution of concerns. In 2008/09, a District Committee of this nature was formed to review Transportation Concerns. During the Visioning Process, School, District and Community Committees were in place to ensure input was received from a wide variety of sources.
Internal District Committees consist of school district staff from relevant areas, and they are formed to examine matters which result in recommendations to the Board, or matters involving personnel or student records. Examples of a standing District Committee of staff would be budget preparation, and the District Drug and Alcohol Review Committee (see link below).
