Kindergarten Registration
Children who become five years old on or before December 31st may enter Kindergarten during that year. Parents or guardians must present their child's birth certificate to the school when registering their child..
Parents of students eligible to enter Kindergarten may register their child in the Early French Immersion Program at Parksville Elementary School. All Kindergarten-aged children in District 69 are eligible to enter. For more information, please contact Parksville Elementary School at 248-5778.
New Students to Our District
We are pleased to welcome you to our school district! While we will do our best, the district cannot guarantee that new students registering after June 1st the previous year will be accommodated at their neighbourhood school. Students may be moved to another school up to and including the last day in September if space availability at their neighbourhood school is a problem. This will occur only if absolutely necessary, and will be based on the order in which registrations are received (last in, first moved).
Should this situation arise, students will be moved to the closest school available, and the school district will be responsible for transportation.
Students from another school district entering Grade 1 and up will be asked to provide their report card from the previous year when registering.
Students with Medical Problems (Alerts)
Please note it is the responsibility of parents / guardians to make the child's school aware of any life threatening medical problems your child may have. This includes any change in condition for those students already on our medical alert file.
Parents are to provide medication in its original container clearly marked with the student's name. Please check the expiration date of the medication. If the medication requires administration (i.e. injection) it is important that those charged with the procedure have the proper training. Please call the Health Unit at 248-2044 for assistance.
School Boundaries - Also see Transportation Information
Attendance boundary maps and descriptions are available at each school. There are neighbourhood schools in the communities of Bowser, Coombs, Errington, Nanoose Bay and Lasqueti Island. Schools in Parksville are Parksville Elementary and Winchelsea Elementary. Qualicum Beach schools are Qualicum Beach Elementary and Arrowview Elementary.
For boundary information, please contact one of these schools, or Heather Cartwright, Executive Assistant at 954-4681.
If your child is moving from elementary to middle school, or middle to secondary, please see the school attendance flow chart below:

Cross Boundary Attendance - Student Transfers
Requests for attendance at other than neighbourhood schools are addressed by completing a cross-boundary request form available at school offices. These should be submitted no later than April 1st. Requests will be considered based on availability and sound educational practice. Students may be transferred back to the neighbourhood school up to and including September 30th if space is not available.
For further help or information, please check with your local school, or contact Heather Cartwright, Executive Assistant at 954-4681.
