One of our most successful programs to date, C-Zone was a meeting of generations at Ballenas Secondary school, with adults and teens working together to benefit the youngest in our community. |
Ballenas Secondary School hosted this program during one "block" of school time, welcoming adults into the woodworking shop and a home economics kitchen. Interested Ballenas students could obtain permission from their teachers to attend during this block, and received credit for community volunteer experience. Both the kitchen and the woodworking shop were supervised by a skilled facilitator/instructor, and no experience was necessary to participate.
Baking Zone

Participants teamed together to work in one of the six kitchens, baking cookies or other goodies. While the baking was in the oven, everyone gathered around the table for coffee and conversation. It's rare for adults and teens to have an opportunity to share their views together, and some interesting discussions occured. The food prepared was shared by all, and was also used by BLT for nutritious snacks during BLT programs.
Construction Zone

Participants worked under the direction of the school's woodworking teacher. The first project completed was the Victorian House now at at Storybook Village, and the major project undertaken during the 2009-2010 school year were renovations to the interior of the new Words on Wheels Bus. Construction Zone participants also built and painted riding toys, furniture and model buildings for Munchkinland. No experience was necessary, and participants learned from a top-notch woodworking teacher in a fully-equipped shop!
