Shoots with Roots Program
Early primary students at Arrowview participate in the Shoots with Roots Program at Milner Gardens.
The Milner house was constructed in 1931 and sits on a bluff overlooking Georgia Straight surrounded by 10 acres of award winning gardens and 60 acres of forest woodland.
In 1996 Vancouver Island University was granted a portion of the property and in 1998 the remaining piece was handed over to the university.
Shoots with Roots is an effective hands-on education program for the younger members (shoots) of the community. In the Shoots with Roots program young shoots and older roots explore the old-growth woodland to learn about safety, flora, fauna and lore as well as tend and harvest the Children’s Food Garden.
