Elective Courses in Dance 10, 11 & 12 (Performance & Choreography)
Our Grade 10 – 12 Dance Focus Program allows students who are enrolled in community-based dance programs to gain high school course-credits for their participation, learning and involvement in dance programs occurring outside of the normal school environment. All students in BC must complete 28 credits in elective courses in order to graduate, and our program allows the committed dancer to realize many of these through a dual-credit program, giving them credit for their involvement in their passion – Dance!
Our Dance Focus liaison teacher will act as your course teacher, working with you to create learning projects to satisfy BC Learning Outcomes for each course, and to coordinate between our program and your dance instructors. The following 4-credit courses are available through our program:
- Dance 10 (Performance)
- Dance 11 (Performance)
- Dance 11 (Choreography)
- Dance 12 (Performance)
- Dance 12 (Choreography)
- Independent Directed Studies in Dance 10 – 12
In essence, for each course credit obtained, the students will participate at least 100 hours in a dance program, along with completing a set of inquiry-based projects associated with the learning outcomes for the particular course. These projects can involve personal journaling and logging of experiences, video documentation, presentations, research, creation of dance and choreography.
