General Information

SAFE ARRIVAL PROCEDURE: When students are absent we telephone home to ensure that they are at home, or supervised, and have not gone missing on their way to school.

FOR YOUR CHILD'S PROTECTION: Parents are requested to please phone us by 9 a.m. to report their child's absence (468-7414)   It will assist us if you could call the school the day before, or leave a message on our answering machine if it is a planned, or anticipated long-term absence.

LATE STUDENTS miss introductory activities and instructions.  They may find it difficult to adjust to the class and distract others as they settle down.  Please encourage your child to be as punctual as possible. Students who arrive after the bell need to check into the office to ensure we have recorded their attendance and get a late pass for their teacher.

INDOOR SHOES:  We have an “indoor shoes” expectation at NBES.  Students must wear their inside runners for PE classes, and whenever they are inside the building. This helps us keep our carpeted areas in the classroom much cleaner and more sanitary for students to sit on.

VISITORS:  School visitors are requested to check in with the office when they arrive.  Please sign-in on our office clipboard, and wear a nametag to assist students in identifying adult volunteers and guests.

FIRST AID AND HEALTH ROOM:  Children should receive sufficient sleep, nutritious meals, and regular exercise to build a healthy body and mind. The school medical room is beside the office and is supervised by office staff.  Students who become ill during the day, or have an injury, may stay in the medical room until their parents pick them up.  If parents cannot be reached by phone, your "emergency contact" or under serious conditions, doctor will be phoned. Please do not send a sick child to school. Staff do not administer medications to students, except in special / emergency situations.  As outlined in the School Act, written authorization from both parent and physician is required for the administration of medications.

SCHOOL CLOSURES:  Please tune into the local radio station (CKCI 1350, 248-4211) for current information. Examples: heavy snowfalls, power outages, buses not running, postponed sports day.

LEAVING SCHOOL GROUNDS:  Students may leave the grounds during the school day, ONLY when they have a dated note from their parents/guardians.   As we areextremely concerned about the security of our students in the playground, serious consequences will result if students leave the school grounds during the day without permission and authorization.  Serious consequences will result if students leave the school grounds during the day without permission and authorization.
