Dear Oceanside Families,
It is hard to believe that the summer is drawing to a close. Mme Charnock and I have been busy getting ready to welcome you and your families to our school. We spent two days last week in meetings with our district leadership team. We are both excited to be taking on our new roles and we look forward to meeting you and your children next week. I am thrilled to be living on the Island now and am looking forward to learning with you and your children.
We are so excited to be welcoming our students next week. We are also welcoming many new families to our school community so if you see someone you don't recognize, please take the time to say hello. The staff are busy planning and getting the school ready to open on Tuesday morning. We thought that you might want some details / reminders for next week:
Dismissal on Tuesday, September 4th is 11:35 am
- The office hours are 8:00 – 3:30 Monday to Friday.
- The welcoming bell is at 8:45 am with the starting bell at 8:50. If you arrive after 8:50, please stop by the office so we can welcome your child(ren) and ensure their attendance is recorded. If your child has an appointment during the day, please remember to sign them in/out at the office. All absence information must go through the office.
- For the safety of our students and staff, ALL visitors MUST sign in/out with the office to receive a visitor's pass.
- Lunch time outside play is from 12:30 – 1:00 pm. Please note that we are a "West Coast School" which means we go out MOST days to play. Proper clothing is important – raincoats and boots are ideal!
- School fees are due by the end of September. If there are extenuating circumstances, please talk to me to make arrangements.
- School supplies – please DO NOT send them on the first day… please wait until child's classroom teacher requests them.
- We are working to have children assigned to their new teacher as quickly as possible… it is a complex process and we want to do it well ensuring that every child is in the best learning environment possible. We are excited about having blended and diverse classes – with diversity comes opportunities for creativity and innovation. Assuming all goes as planned, our aim is to have students assigned to classrooms before the end of the day Wednesday, September 5th.
- Our driveway gets very busy at the beginning and end of the day. Please walk if you can . If you drive, there is NO PARKING in the drive-thru area. EVEN if you think you'll only be a minute.
For Tuesday (Day 1):
- Returning students will be in their previous classrooms for the first day and the beginning of the second day. THEY CAN LINE UP IN THEIR USUAL SPOTS AND THEIR TEACHERS WILL MEET THEM OUTSIDE.
- NEW STUDENTS will be greeted in the school foyer and will go to the Multi-purpose room before being escorted to grade appropriate classes. New students will be dismissed from the MP room at the end of the day.
- Incoming K students do not attend
For Wednesday (Day 2):
Arrival:
- Incoming K students – please follow the instructions for gradual entry as previously outlined (in other words, ignore this information)
- Students will line up in the SAME spots as they did on day one. The teachers will meet them outside and bring them to their TEMPORARY homerooms (see chart below).
For Dismissal:
- Students taking the bus, will be shown their line up 'spots' and will receive notices about their new classrooms to take home.
- Grade one's will be dismissed in the courtyard by the back doors.
- Grade two's and three's will be dismissed at the basketball court.
- Intermediate students will be dismissed from their classrooms. Please decide on a meeting place before school starts.
- All students will have letters with their classroom teacher's information to take home.
Have a great long weekend and we will see you Tuesday!!!
