Approximately only two percent of the population is gifted. At Parksville Elementary that means between six to eight students will be identified and qualify for the gifted program.

Toward the end of the grade three year students who demonstrate characteristics of "giftedness", and with parent approval, write the Canadian Cognitive Abilities Test (C.C.A.T.). Students who score inthe top two percent, as determined by the District Psychologist, become eligible to join the gifted program.

The Gifted Program at PES is predominately a pull out program and project based, with the majority of work completed outside of instructional time, at home.
