A Message from the Principal - April 9, 2020

Hello Kwalikum Families,

This week you and/or your student should have heard from core academic and academic elective teachers.  We have been attempting to make contact with every student via the demographic information we have in MyEducation.  If you have not received a message, either via phone or email, please contact kwalikum@sd69.bc.ca to update your preferred phone or email contact information.  Additionally, please respond to your classroom teachers if you have received a message from them and have not yet replied.

As we head into next week, you should expect our Physical Education and elective teachers to reach out to students with ways the learning in these classes can occur from a distance.  Additionally, our academic teachers will be setting up connections with their students in a more β€œscheduled” manner, and will be providing learning activities for their classes.

It is important for families to understand that despite the circumstances of having in-person  instruction suspended, the school year is not yet completed. The Ministry of Education has made it clear that students are expected to engage in learning activities that are tied to the curriculum in the various classes in which they are enrolled.  These activities will be focussed on the main topics of study in the course, and will be designed to provide students the opportunity to demonstrate sufficient knowledge, skills and understanding to move to the next level of study. If students choose not to engage in learning between now and the end of June, they will not have met the expectations of the course and will need  to repeat classes if they are required for graduation.

As we head into next week, the school district, along with all of our teachers and support staff, will be looking at how we continue to support our learners despite our distance from each other.

Knowing that our current situation is challenging for all, we wish you and your family a safe and happy Easter.

April 6, 2020   Update from the Principal

Hello Kwalikum Secondary School Families,

We hope that you all are doing well.  By this time, you should have been contacted by your child's Connections teacher, either via email or a phone call.  This week our focus will be having academic core and academic elective teachers connect with you to see how you are , and to determine the ways learning can continue for you from your home.  While our goal is to have learning options clear for students by April 15th, we do not want anyone to feel stressed about expectations.  As we are beginning our second week, we wanted to provide an update regarding our plans for this week:

Teacher Contact:

Course teacher will be making connections with their students – they'll be asking a few questions:

  1.  How are your and your family doing?
  2. What is your preferred method of communication – how can I best reach you?
  3. Do you have technology? Do you have wifi?
  4. What do you feel is important for you going forward in your learning in this class?
    • Learning you need to catch up on
    • What will help you learn best?
    • What might you be wondering about that I may be able to answer?

This contact will happen on a schedule, so that contact is not happening all at once or at the same time:

Monday – A Block,  Tuesday – B Block,   Wednesday – C Block,   Thursday – D Block

As always, please continue to check our website and the district website for updated information, or contact me directly with questions or concerns.

Stay safe,

Lori Marshall, Principal

A Message from the Superintendent, April 1, 2020
Hello to all School District 69 parents.  I am reaching out to offer you our continued best wishes and support. We hope this finds you well and safe during these unsettling times. We continue to abide by the directive and advice of the Provincial Health Officer and the Ministry of Education, meaning that schools are shuttered with access only for cleaning purposes, retrieval of essential items and soon services for children of front-line essential service workers.
