A Message from the Superintendent, March 20, 2020

March 20, 2020

We know that parents, guardians, students and community members have questions about what will happen when we are scheduled to return from spring break on March 30. As you will know, government has suspended in-class learning indefinitely, meaning that children will remain at home. The one exception is expected to be children of parents deemed "essential workers" by government (emergency responders and health professionals for example). Government has indicated that those children, certainly younger children who are unable to be on their own, will be in school for child-minding purposes.  Staff are expected to return to work on March 30 although at least initially many may be working from home.

In terms of what has been framed as "continuity of learning", teachers will be tasked with providing guidance to families to support ongoing learning of a general nature at home. School district staff and school administration will support that work of teachers.  We know that you have many questions, so we are preparing to post an FAQ (frequently asked questions) document to the district website.  Look for that in the coming days.  In the meantime, we urge you to follow the clear advice of the provincial health officer in terms of social distancing and standard precautions such as washing your hands, disinfecting surfaces and calling 811 if you have health questions.
