Band Students - Please take your instruments home today to practice over Spring Break. We have a festival coming up within a week of school starting up again, so it would be a good idea to practice over the next few weeks. Any instruments left in the band room over Spring Break may be sold on eBay to help Mr. Kellas afford a vacation to Hawaii. (Haha!)

 

Any French Immersion student taking the Wellness Independent study class, must come and see Mr Provencher in room 402 today if you have you do not have your authorization paper signed.

 

MANDITORY BSS Track and Field Meeting TODAY Friday March 15th at the beginning of lunch in Rm. 202

SPRING CARNIVAL – Looking to make some quick spending money? Want to fast track fundraising for a trip? Come to room 904 at lunch TODAY, Friday, March 15th to learn more about running a booth at the Annual Spring Carnival.

 

If you are interested in education options in the USA there is a opportunity to  attend the USA College Expo April 7th in Vancouver. Register online at uscollegeexpo.com  This is not a school sponsored event you will have to arrange this trip on your own.

 

Grade 12s, I am glad 34 of you have taken me up on my suggestion of getting your Grad Transitions done sooner rather than later.  I strongly suggest getting it done over spring break if you haven't done so already as April - June will be crazy and go fast.  You will also need to be working on your local scholarship application as these are due the first Friday we are back.  NO LATE applications will be accepted. Enjoy your Spring Break!!

 

Boys to Men Mentoring at Ballenas: Boy to Men is a safe and confidential place for boys age 12-17 to get together and talk without fear of judgement or advice. We meet every Thursday after school from 3:20-4:30 in room 913. A snack is offered to begin each meeting. If interested please see Mr Fraser, Mr Ayers, or Mr Langenmaier for more information.

 

Nanaimo Airport Commission (NAC) Scholarships:  $500 scholarships are available for grade 12 students who plan on studying in any of the following fields:  Check out the Ballenas scholarship website for more information.  Aviation Maintenance.  Commercial or private pilot.  Airport operations – Airside and/or within an airport service industry. Business Administration or Tourism programs

 

ROAMS Global - Want to spend a semester adventuring in the outdoors AND getting credits for school? If you are currently a student in grades 9-11 (going into grades 10-12), pick up an application form at the counselling office, and have it completed and returned before the end of March. Forms can be returned to the office, the counselling office, or handed directly into Ms Buckingham. If you have any questions, see Ms Buckingham or Ms Hill, or email hbuckingham@sd69.bc.ca 

 

FRENCH IMMERSION SUPPORT BLOCK at lunch in room 402.

 

Strive Cafe: Students please come and pay for your IOU's.  From now on Strive Cafe will be cash or coffee card only.

 

Student interested in travelling to France, Spain and Italy next spring break, need to come and see Mr Provencher in room 402. (French Immersion, FSL student and possibly Spanish student are welcome ). Please note that the tour will take place in the French language. 

 

Anyone planning on or interested in playing FOOTBALL should come to the workouts after school Monday, Tuesday, and Thursdays from 315 to 415 in the weight room.  No experience is needed and it's not too late to join, but the sooner the better!  Open to grade 8-11s.  See Coach Conn in room 909 if you have any questions.

 

"Pins and Needles" club meets on Tuesdays at lunch in Room 904.  Come learn how to knit or crochet or just work on a previously started project. Open to all members of the Ballenas community of all skill levels. See Ms. Christie, Ms. Kent or Ms. Zalinko for more information.

 

Drop in Volleyball - Morning volleyball drop in is starting up again every Friday at 7:30 am

Yearbooks are on sale now still only $45 including free personalization!! Pick up an order form in the office and return it with your payment to either Mr. Seidel in Room 202 or the Office.

 

BALLENAS AND GRAD STICKERS – will be sold every day at lunch in the main foyer.  $2, $3 & $4 each.  Come out and check them out.

 

FRENCH TUTORING? - French tutoring open to all at lunch every day the week in room 405

 

Bagel café - The bagel cafe is open every morning in room 803 from 8am till 8:40am.  Come in for a bagel or oatmeal, a piece of fruit and some juice! By donation! 

 

Popcorn every Wednesday $1.00

 

FRESHLY BAKED CINNAMON BUNS.  Wednesdays $2.00 each
